Article: The purpose of a Church

Today we might go to church not even knowing why we are there, or we might just come to socialize as a group. But is the body of Christ  really about coming together and socializing? It’s about truly being the body of Christ and drinking the cup the father has given us through his word.

In most churches these days what we are doing is we are coming together just to have a meeting or a congregation. What is a congregation? A congregation is a group of people who come together for an occasion. Now there could be many congregations of different kinds. There could be wedding congregations, sport congregation, job congregation, and many more. Even though there are church congregations, are we just sitting around, or are we actually doing our roles and parts in the body of Christ?
What is the difference between a church meeting and an actual body of Christ? The body of Christ truly has a role in the church. For an example, one person can be a teacher while the other has the gift of tounges, but one is not greater than the other. Also some people God has given them more than 1 gift like Peter. Peter had the gift of healing and he was a apostle. While on the other hand a church meeting is just listening to a message and singing songs, even though you slept through half of the service. A real body of Christ has different people with different roles. 1 Corinthians 12:7 says, “A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.”This means each of us God has given different roles in his body. So it all depends if we actually use our talent.
So what is the genuine body of Christ? The body of Christ as Paul says is different bodies baptized to become one body of the same spirit which is of our Lord’s. Now the body of Christ can be related to our own human body. In simpler context  one person in the body of Christ can be a teacher and when we relate it to our body that person can be a ear of the human body. But even though each person has different roles we shouldn’t be jealous of each other. 1 Corinthians 12:15 says, “If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. “  For preachers, teachers, apostles, prophets, people who do miracles, and the gift of tongues each are different, but are all equally important.

How does the body of Christ function? The body of Christ functions in one way. That way is the only way and the only truth and the only life. He is Jesus Christ. In Colossians 1:18 says, “And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.” So the body of Christ works like this Christ is the vine and we are the branches who have different roles in his body. Some branches might be more stronger and longer than others, but we are still the body of Christ. Some people do the opposite. Their “Body of Christ” is one person in the church the head and the rest the branches, but that is not how it works because Christ is the one and only head of the true body of Christ. So always remember that Christ is the only head and we the church are the branches.
Therefore let us not waste our time going to church and having no part of the body with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Instead let us find the gift our father has sent and produce a 100 time what was reaped.
