NOT BY MIGHT NOR BY POWER, BUT MY SPIRIT

Once there lived a happy family consisting of father, mother and two children- a girl and
a boy. The parents were religious and trusted in God. The children were given much
knowledge of God and asked them to believe Him blindly. They were even taught that
whatever they ask God, they receive it. They believed everything because they could see
the miracle whenever they seek God. As they were grown up, the boy became a
neurologist and the girl had her masters in theology. Even though they were known and
accepted by the world, they never tried to forget the teachings of the parents.
One night, the neurologist had an important surgery for his patient. He was confident that
he could complete the surgery successfully within hours. But as the surgery proceeded,
he came to the realization that he could no longer complete it since it had a lot of
complications which he never had faced in his past experiences. He removed his mask,
gloves and went back to his seat. He started sweating. Soon his colleagues ran towards
him and asked him to complete it. But with a grief he replied that it cannot be completed.
After this he went to his room and as he was getting ready to go home his sister ranged
up and enquired why he was so sad. He told about the surgery and with a deep sigh he
replied that it was the first surgery ever he had not completed successfully. With a broad
smile in face she asked, “Did you start the surgery with a prayer?”. He understood what
she meant because before having a surgical tool in his hand he prayed. But this time he
believed himself since it was a minor surgery which he thought could handle easily.
Tears rolled down through his cheeks as he realized his mistake and apologized to God
Almighty. With a peaceful and happy mind, he proceeded to the surgical room and
completed the surgery within minutes. He understood how he became world famous. It
was not because of his talent but only through God. His colleagues were surprised and
asked him how he could complete it within minutes even there wasn’t a ray of hope. As
his sister, he answered with a smile “Not by might nor by power, but my spirit”.
When David triumphed over Philistine with a sling and a stone, the towns of Israel
danced and sang:
“Saul has slain his thousands
And David his tens of thousands”.
Saul was very angry about this and kept a jealous eye on David, but he could never defeat
him because he knew that the Lord was with David. Thus, the Bible says: “In everything
he did he had great success, because the Lord was with him.” 1 Samuel: 18. 4. Dears, let
our faith and prayer to the Almighty be eternal.
